juggling jumbled

Jumbled.  “Mixed up in a confused or untidy way.” - dictionary.com

Does it ever feel like life is or gets jumbled sometimes? Like playing 52 card pickup but trying to pick up ONLY the aces. It’s all mixed up and untidy, I can’t find the aces that simply! Haha! Especially not while still needing to pick up the other 48 cards too. Try harder, work harder, do more, catch up...

Seriously, I don’t know if you can relate but my life feels like that sometimes. There are things I set out to do - things I want to focus on and they get jumbled in the other 48 cards lying around.

Is life supposed to be unmanageable ?

Like wanting to write a book but getting a new job, moving into a new house, starting and maintaining relationships, needing to make more money, get that crack fixed in my windshield, workout and be healthy etc. Not sure if you have noticed but things often get in our way.. There’s always more work to do.

Maybe it’s the “unexpecteds” for you - the circumstances that just feel way too in the way to do the things you REALLY want to do.

Maybe it’s the “have to’s” for you - the job we do to provide for ourselves and family, the dropping your kids off at school, the doctors appointments, etc.

Not enough time, too much time, too many things to do, etc. Whatever it is, the good news is that we don’t necessarily have to live in a way that it all feels jumbled and overwhelms us. We can’t do it all and that’s okay! What we can do is continually/daily orient our lives in a way that reminds us of the important things.

What if the very thing we throw out first (rest) is the very thing we need to make sense of the jumble and move forward?

While life can be busy and speedy and all too much to maintain sometimes - we were wired in a way to rest and reorient.

“ If we wait for the work to be completely finished before we can rest, we will never enter rest.” -Subversive Sabbath by A.J. Swoboda

In a world filled and saturated - we have got to stand for our times of rest with ourselves, with God, and in our communities!

I know it doesn’t make sense in a to-do list that is ever growing and expanding - to take a pause and rest but it gives us access to something that the doing never can.

“What defines work? And rest? Our hearts. Are we entering into trust and love and peace and goodness? Are we being thankful? Can we be still? Sabbath (rest) invites us into the freedom of God’s love.” -Subversive Sabbath by A.J. Swoboda

What could a day of real rest give you access to?

-power

-peace

-trust

-love

-goodness

-thankfulness

-eyes to see beauty

-hearts to recognize what’s important

Bottom line - What if the key to living more of an unjumbled life wasn’t to try harder to unjumble it, but to simply and intentionally rest??

Much Love,

Kims
