The best day getaway from Denver
Nederland, Colorado is hands down one of my favorite short getaways from Denver! It’s about 1hr and 15 minutes from Denver.
The first stop you can’t miss is Train Cars Coffee and Yogurt Company for some coffee and UNBELIEVABLE donuts. (Pro tip make sure the donuts are fresh either come right in the morning or in early afternoon.)
I mean look at those donuts!! Once you’ve had your donuts and coffee you can’t miss heading next door to the Carousel of Happiness! This a true gem of Joy! For just $3 dollars you can hop on and go back in time! The story about how it started is so moving. As the Carousel of Happiness website says:
“As a young Marine in Vietnam Scott Harrison received a tiny music box that he held to his ear to distract him from the horror of the war going on around him. The music, Chopin’s “Tristesse,” brought him a peaceful image of a carousel in a mountain meadow. After returning home, he rescued an abandoned Looff carousel in Utah and spent 26 years hand-carving animals to bring it back to life.”
You could surely just spend the day walking around town and hanging out. There’s plenty to walk around and see in Nederland. Even the public library is a nice stop to pause and work on a community puzzle! If you are looking to stay for the night there’s plenty of free and easy access camping! One of our favorites is West Magnolia Designated Dispersed Campsites.
