a metaphor to move you forward in life
Trying something a little different with a blog post this time. Bringing an element I use for coaching in as a freebie!
I've posted this particular one on social media before so you might have seen it! However, even if you have, I challenge you to look at it again and check in with yourself! Plus there’s brand new deeper questions at the end!
Without further ado here it is!!!
COACHING METAPHOR/EXERCISE:
Alright, imagine with me that there’s a big, huge body of water.
You (as you are now) are on one side of the body of water and on the other side is the life you want, the you you want to be, the fulfilling of the dreams you have, etc.
How do you get across? Do you find a boat? Learn how to swim? Build a bridge? Walk around? Do you even attempt to get across?
The powerful point here is that you have a choice. You can start taking steps to get across if you want or you can stay still (either way it's a choice.) So what's stopping you from finding a boat, learning how to swim, building a bridge, or walking around?
How are you relating to the gap between where you are now and where you want to go?
Identify honestly where you are at now, what the body of water is, and what is on the other side.
Side note: might I add that the journey across might just be filled with adventure, experience, and LOADED full of memories and learning. Maybe just maybe there's even MORE to be found and explored in the water than being on the other side!
BONUS DEEPER QUESTIONS:
Are there things entangling you where you are at right now?
What is on the other side? What is the life you want, the you you want to be?
Is there purpose and meaning on the other side? Is it worth it to you?
What’s the body of water look like to you/how does it feel? Impossible? Out of reach?
How would kid you view the body of water?
What resources do you already have to get you across? Things? People? Etc?
P.S. This isn’t a one time and done kind of thing… We' might often find ourselves back in a place where something is blocking us from the life we want or the person we want to become! Feel free to circle back to this as a resource and keep on adventuring and moving forward. :)
much love,
kims
